Descubren un asteroide cercano a la Tierra, las jóvenes astrónomas realizaron su hallazgo valiéndose del telescopio 'Pan Starrs' de Hawái, gracias a un programa científico por Space India.

Dos estudiantes indias de 10.° grado de secundaria descubrieron un asteroide cercano a la Tierra, que fue nombrado como HLV2514 por la NASA tras confirmar el hallazgo, según recoge India Today.

El descubrimiento se produce dentro de la Campaña de Búsqueda de Asteroides de SPACE-All India. Las jóvenes estudiantes, Vaidehi Vekariya Sanjaybhai y Radhika Lakhani Prafulbhai, utilizaron el telescopio avanzado Pan Starrs de Hawái (EE.UU.), equipado con cámaras con dispositivos de carga acoplada (CCD, por sus siglas en inglés) de alto grado, y un campo de visión amplio que facilita la búsqueda de asteroides.

El programa de ciencias en el que participaron estas alumnas tuvo una duración de dos meses y fue dirigido por Space India en colaboración con la Colaboración Internacional de Búsqueda Astronómica (IASC, por sus siglas en inglés) y la Universidad Hardin Simmons de Texas.

"Nos enorgullece anunciar que dos niñas de Surat, con la ayuda de la Campaña de Búsqueda de Asteroides de SPACE-All India, descubrieron un nuevo asteroide que es un objeto cercano a la Tierra", escribió Space India en una publicación de Facebook en la que anunciaron el hallazgo.
