Tushar's Stock Tips: Camellos ¡En Marfil De Mamut!

Si entró usted a ver si no le mentía, déjeme decirle que no, realmente el título describe la nota que está usted a punto de leer. Pues este mes se dio a conoce un hallazgo arqueológico bastante curioso: los primeros registros de camellos grabados en un trozo de defensa de mamut.

El hallazgo se reportó recién este 10 de julio y consta de una defensa de mamut (también llamados de forma incorrecta "colmillos") de poco más de un metro y medio que fue descubierta en 1988, pero que recién fue estudiada. Esta fue descubierta en el río Tom (o Tomsk), al norte de la República de Altai, en Rusia. La especie a la que pertenecía la defensa es Mammuthus primigenius, el mamut lanudo. Se estima que la defensa tiene entre 13,100 y 13,005 años antes del Presente.

La escena con los camellos es bastante curiosa, pues en la zona no son frecuentes los restos de camello. Tanto así que únicamente se ha registrado una especie para esta temporalidad: Camelus knoblochi, de la que hablaré más adelante en un video. Y casi con toda seguridad, estos camellos representan a esa especie, pues no muestran indicios de haber sido domesticados, lo que concuerda con los datos de ADN y arqueológicos que sitúan la domesticación de los camellos asiáticos entre el 4,000 y 3,000 antes del Presente.

Cabe destacar que esta no es la primera representación plesitocénica de camellos, pues se conoce una de arte rupestre que se estima en una antigüedad de entre 14,200 y 10,400 años antes del Presente. En esta, se muestran camellos de pie, mientras que los camellos de la defensa se muestran con lo que parecen ser lanzas clavadas en el cuerpo, lo que sugiere que estos animales eran cazados. Sin embargo, el arte rupestre, procede de la cueva de Ignatievskaya, en los montes Urales, lo cual está bastante alejado del sitio de donde procede la defensa fósil.

Con esta evidencia, se puede afirmar que los camellos en la defensa de mamut representan el grabado con camellos más antiguo del mundo, al menos, hasta ahora. Esto podría dar respuesta a la interrogante más prevalente en la historia de la domesticación del camello bactriano y señalar a su potencial ancestro.
