El queso Cortijo de Caideros, elaborado en Gran Canaria bajo la Denominación de Origen Protegida (DOP) Queso Flor de Guía, Queso Media Flor de Guía y Queso de Guía, y el queso El Tofio (queso de cabra untado con pimentón) de Fuerteventura se alzaron con la distinción de Mejor Queso de Canaria 2020 ex aequo en el Concurso Oficial de Quesos de Agrocanarias al obtener la misma puntuación por parte del panel de cata.

El fallo del jurado, dado a conocer por la Consejera de Agricultura, Ganadería y Pesca del Gobierno de Canarias, Alicia Vanoostende, y el Director del Instituto Canario de Calidad Agroalimentaria (ICCA), Juan Manuel Plata, otorgó la distinción a Mejor Imagen y Presentación a la Quesería El Rubicón de Lanzarote, mientras que el reconocimiento de los niños-as, la denominada distinción del Jurado Infantil, fue para Quesos San Mateo S.L. y su queso de mezcla untado con pimentón.

Asimismo, el premio al Mejor Queso Popular de Canarias, recayó en un queso untado con gofio de la Quesería Era del Cardón de Agüimes, empresa regentada por Luis Martel y Lucía Torres, y el premio al Mejor Queso de Producción Limitada reconoció a la Quesería El Cortijo de Las Hoyas de Gran Canaria.

Vanoostende señaló la importancia del concurso Agrocanarias, "que pone en valor los quesos de las islas" y destacó "el esfuerzo realizado por los diferentes productores-as durante la crisis sanitaria, con quienes hemos trabajado desde la consejería en diferentes líneas de actuación" que se verán reforzadas con "la puesta en marcha de nuevas ayudas a través del PDR para paliar los efectos de la Covid-19 y con la simplificación de los procedimientos de solicitudes de las ayudas Posei 2020 para los productores-as de leche, entre otras".

Por su parte, Plata agradeció "el compromiso de los trabajadores-as de su departamento para sacar adelante el concurso" y explicó la importancia de este sector en Canarias, "una de las comunidades donde más queso por habitante se consume, así como la necesidad de potenciar la rica y variada oferta de este producto en las islas".
